They believe they should be making a full, liveable wage on this part-time gig, it's ridiculous. The problem is the other contractors! If you go to the forums all they do is complain (which stops them from working). Rev is fine, you can work as much as you want. I've been with them for about 6 months and never had issues getting paid. I've tried all of the other online WFH gigs and this one stands out. (Full disclosure: never worked for Ubiqus or Allegis so I can't say for sure how they are as employers, just that I know Rev and their ilk are pretty dire and these are at least other options.I work for Rev as a contractor and make about $350 per week working 6 hours per day. Not fantastic, but it's better work than Rev and it'll get you the experience you need for actual decent media transcription pay rates. If you ever see Daily Transcription looking for transcribers, they're a good outfit to work for and their pay starts at. Lately I've seen Allegis posting a lot, and Ubiqus might also be hiring (I seem to remember seeing their ads lately too). A lot of companies will hire from these ads. Go to searchtempest and do a nationwide Craigslist search for "transcription" and look through the listings. Once you can prove you've been doing this for six months to a year, your options open up somewhat. The problem is a lot of them don't hire people without experience. There are tons of companies out there that hire transcribers, and the vast majority of them pay better and have better work. I'd flip that around and say I've really only seen two transcription houses that are worse than Rev, and I've been doing this for a living for 13 years. ![]() They'll tank you quickly because they're very tricky to do and are not beginner friendly. Avoid any family vloggers and stuff aimed at children those are rating sinkers. If you still decide to give them a try on the captioning side, here's some quick advice which would most likely be given to you if you interact with others on the site. They'll also give you a low score for some of the stupidest reasons. One rater will say one thing is correct, another will claim it's correct, and then someone else will give you a poor rating for that very same thing you were told was alright. The rating system is also quite bullshit. But, as with the transcription side of Rev, it's competitive. Rev just expects you to be a miracle worker for that garbled garbage that may or may have not been recorded using a potato.Ĭaptioning, from my experience with them, tends to offer better quality jobs.
